Northern Prawn Trawlers
Seafood caught by Raptis Vessels in the Northern Prawn
Fishery
The Northern Prawn Fishery encompasses eleven of the Raptis
vessels, each originating from the Raptis’ Brisbane premises. This
fishery covers a region of Australia’s Northern Waters from Gulf of
Carpentaria to the Kimberleys. The globally renowned product derived from
these freezer vessels accumulates from two predominant seasons: The
Banana Prawn Season of six weeks duration in April and May and the Tiger
Prawn Season of three months, between August and November. Motherships,
providing refueling and unloading provisions, allow for each vessel to
remain centralised in fishing waters for the extent of each
season. Outside of these prawn seasons, several vessels trawl along
Australia’s Western Coastline in search of Scampi and Morton Bay Bugs.
Vessels which do not participate outside the prawn seasons undergo refits
at either one Raptis’ Brisbane or Karumba docks.
